Kia Motors - The Power To Surprise

24/08/2009

2009 has been a record year for Kia Motors Corporation, the 4th largest automotive group in the world. Having overcome difficulties, in years gone by, with brand awareness, representation and image, they now have a dynamic and contemporary model range to rival their competitors. Accompanied by a revolutionary seven year warranty for some models, this makes Kia a force to be reckoned with.

Over the years Kia has become one of the most successful worldwide car manufacturers, recognised in the last 12 months by the following awards:

o Car Maker of the Year by the AM magazine in its 2009 Awards
o Car Franchise of the Year by Motor Trader magazine
o 2008 Autocar, Automotive manufacturer of the year

For the seven months to July 2009, Kia registered nearly 23,000 vehicles, over 3,500 in July alone, in comparison to the cumulative position last year, this represents an 11% increase, resulting in over 2% total market share. This places Kia in the upper half of the manufacturers representing the motor industry in the UK, in terms of registrations. For retail units, to the end of June, Kia have seen a 26% increase year on year. This can be partly explained by the success Kia have experienced in the Scrappage scheme, mainly with the Picanto model, enjoying a 133% increase in retail sales year on year. Of the total number of Scrappage units sold under the Government scheme, since it's introduction in May 2009, Kia have contributed nearly 6,000 units, representing over 7% of sales. This volume has been surpassed by only three franchises, which is mainly due to Kia's quick response to the scheme's announcement and the customer's receptiveness to the combination of value, high quality and good design that Kia's model range offers.

2009 also saw the introduction of the new Soul model, which was recognised by Fast Car 2009, as the best new model, further enhancing their highly competitive range, which has seen Kia's market share increase by 44% year on year.

It must be recognised that Kia have enjoyed a successful 2009 so far and there isn't any reason to believe that the second half of the year won't help them to strengthen their position in terms of profitability and market share. It is recognised that in 2010 the motor industry should start to see the return of some stability, after a difficult trading period, which can only enhance Kia's success, watch this space!
