Tax Returns

08/01/2010

Time is now running out for the completion of Tax Returns for the year ended 5 April 2009, which need to be with HM Revenue & Customs by 31 January 2010, or a £100 penalty will be imposed. Late filing also extends the period when HMRC can enquire into a Tax Return, and invalidates any fee protection insurance held.

As the deadline this year falls on a Sunday, it effectively means that signed forms need to be back to advisors no later than 29 January to enable them to be submitted on time. It should however be borne in mind that HMRC's system invariably crashes on the final day, so sooner rather than later should be the aim.

Please remember that you are unlikely to be the only one who has left it until the last couple of weeks, so you may already have left it too late for your agent to have time to complete!!
