Claiming Rebate of Covid 19 Related Statutory Sick Pay

Although dealers currently have most staff on furlough, back in early March when showrooms were still open, some employees may have been absent for Covid 19 related reasons.  This could have been because they had symptoms, were self-isolating or were shielding.  If you paid them SSP during this time you might be eligible to recover this from the government.

The scheme is only available for employers who had fewer than 250 employees on 28 February 2020 and applies to periods of absence commencing on or after either 13 March or 16 April depending on the type of absence.  A full list of conditions and record-keeping requirements can be found here https://www.gov.uk/guidance/claim-back-statutory-sick-pay-paid-to-employees-due-to-coronavirus-covid-19  HMRC will update this page with further details as they become available.

In a similar way to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, claims will be made via an online service which utilises the same credentials as your PAYE online account – so the same details you will have used to claim furlough pay.  This service will be available from 26 May 2020.
